Google第N次尝试做即时通讯,社交梦能成真吗?

苹果的 iMessage 就是这样做的,内置在 iPhone 中可以轻易获得大量用户。WhatsApp 是与电话号码绑定,而不需要支付电话费用。Facebook Messenge 则是直接利用了 Facebook 强大的社交关系链。大家都有各自稳定的增长渠道,可惜的是 Google 却没有。虽然 Android 已经是全球第一大移动操作系统,但它是开源的,不可控的,连三星都在“挖墙脚”,推出自己的默认短信应用。

我们之前体验过 Google Allo,它功能强大,还加入了很多人工智能技术。不过 Google Allo 却未能获取大量用户,目前大约仅有 5000 万用户。相比之下 WhatsApp、Facebook Messenger、中国的微信都已经是十亿级的应用。

Android 绝对是 Google 最强大的底牌,但也许正因为这样,Google 才愈发谨慎地使用这张底牌。像 iMessage 一样强推预装不是不可以,但这可能会引发运营商的抗议,他们不会喜欢在 Android 手机上有这么一个可以取代短信的服务。据估计,目前每年还有 8 万亿条短信基于 SMS 服务发出,这是一个巨大的、不可放弃的市场。

综合各种因素,Google 选择用 Chat 来升级现有的 SMS 短信,也就成了一个合理而必然的选择。Android 是个开放的系统,SMS 短信系统需要升级,这也符合运营商的利益。那么新的 Chat 会有什么不同呢?
