How will the upcoming 5G + AI era transform the education industry?

Release time:2025-09-24 10:41page views:

With the development of new technologies, the form of education is also changing. The development of Internet technology and online audio & video technology has promoted the development of online education, giving birth to various online teaching models such as online one-to-one and online large classes.

At the GET2019 Education Science and Technology Cultural Festival, Tao Zhiqiang, general manager of Huawei's cloud business, mentioned that the third industrial revolution, marked by information technology, is more about using data and information as resources to develop and release new productive forces, that is, to further enhance the field of human expansion work, while also enabling digitalization and intelligence to benefit various industries.

This is also the reason why the industrial Internet has received more and more attention. The development of technology has made it possible to intelligentize various sub-industries, and the degree of intelligence has changed with the development of technology. What changes will the developing artificial intelligence technology and 5G technology bring to education?

How to implement AI + education

"The common feature of human learning and machine learning is that they both learn relevant laws, summarize knowledge, and stimulate basic reasoning ability." At the Global Mobile Internet Conference GMIC, Lin Huijie, technical director of NetEase Youdao, said that in terms of AI technology, so far it is still data-driven. When it has certain reasoning and knowledge capabilities, AI can assist humans in making some decisions, and even replace some repetition.

In terms of education, Lin Huijie expressed the hope that with the help of AI technology and machine learning methods, they can improve their efficiency in all aspects of teaching, training and evaluation, and transform traditional learning methods.

"This is a beautiful idea. What we are doing is to expand the middle circle as much as possible through the external assistance of AI + education," said Lin Huijie. He said that AI + education is currently being applied in four ways.

1. AI can improve the efficiency of job correction.

2. Through intelligent hardware, digitize the teaching information of finer granularity. Lin Huijie said that the pure software solution requires the help of some additional devices, including mobile phone cameras or high-speed cameras. NetEase hopes that hardware can cut into traditional scenes rather than create new ones.

3. AI helps digitize questions. More demand is for educational institutions and teachers themselves, how to improve the efficiency of their paper-based questions warehousing.

4. AI realizes tutoring technology. Lin Huijie believes that the combination of AI technology with traditional intelligent hardware and educational electronic devices will provide more room for imagination.

In fact, this is the direction that AI + education companies are getting involved in, that is, to improve teaching efficiency through AI technology, and the specific areas of entry include homework correction, oral evaluation, etc. But at the same time, all AI + education methods also have certain problems when they are specifically implemented.

The core of AI + education is data

Lin Huijie believes that the main reason for this is that the entire AI + education lacks a very important data link. Teachers and students will accumulate a lot of data during the learning process, but most of the data is currently retained offline. Only by taking these offline data collections online and continuously training AI models through different types of data sets can AI models become more mature and help achieve the personalized services required in learning.

"How to better collect data, process data, and learn better rules from data is the focus of the entire AI + education industry at present," Lin Huijie said. He said that the AI + education process can be divided into three stages, the bottom is the digitization of educational content, and the second layer is the automation of educational engineering. In these two stages, various data produced in the traditional offline teaching or learning process can be combined with online data, and the final time limit teaching method can be intelligently taught according to the aptitude.

Lin Huijie explained that the specific implementation process is to digitalize and understand traditional paper-based materials and content through a series of technologies such as OCR, ASR, and text processing. Subsequently, create more personalized applications based on extracted and understood data and resources, such as in live classes, focusing on data understanding and collection, which can improve the efficiency of interaction in the future; finally, in the field of adaptive learning, more accurate personalized recommendations can be achieved based on rich data assistance.

In terms of 5G, Lin Huijie said that the upcoming 5G popularization will also refresh the experience and possibilities of AI + education, first of all, it will further improve the speed of live broadcast of large classes. In the past, the delay of traditional large class live broadcast would even reach 5-30s. Tao Zhiqiang also has the same view, and with the help of smoother technology, the remote real scene can be more delicate and realistic.
