Samsung has the highest mobile phone failure rate in Quarter 1 of 2018

Data security firm Blancco has released its latest "State of Mobile Device Repair and Security" report, which gives some data for this year's Quarter 1. According to Blancco, from January to April, Samsung phones had the highest failure rate at 27.4%. Apple iPhone 6 had the highest failure rate of 22%, the iOS device with the highest failure rate, followed by Apple iPhone 6s with 16%. Overall, 15.2% of iOS devices failed in Quarter 1 2018, compared to 18.9% for Android devices. In terms of Android phones, Samsung ranked first in the failure rate, and Xiaomi came second with a failure rate of 14.2%, which is quite a bit lower than Samsung's 27.4%. Motorola ranked third with a failure rate of 9.6%, while Huawei ranked fourth with a failure rate of 8.4%.

The data was obtained by Blancco using iOS and Android devices, which were handed over to Blancco from carriers and retailers for "testing and wiping." The report also found that 74.3% of iOS devices were running iOS 11, while 52% of Android phones were using Android Nougat. In addition, the adoption rate of Oreo (1.3%) system was similar to that of Android 2.3.x Gingerbread (1.2%) in 2010. The biggest performance issues reported for iOS devices were Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Next came problems with using headphones (e.g. without a 3.5mm jack) and mobile data. Android issues included overall phone performance issues, camera, microphone, and battery charging issues.
